As a baby massage instructor I get a lot of satisfaction showing new parents techniques to help their little one to sleep better and to help with issues such as colic, constipation and gas.
I’m always on the lookout for other modalities that can help families and over the years I’ve often heard of craniosacral therapy and what it does and how it works has always intrigued me! I knew that it could do a lot for adults but also wondered whether parents could use craniosacral therapy for infants. I was unsure whether it was sufficiently gentle for that purpose when they are so tiny and fragile.
Well it was perfect timing and I got my answers when I recently met and interviewed mum of 2, Meaghan Beames. Meaghan is an Infant Craniosacral Therapist who specialises in providing gentle craniosacral therapy for infants, newborns and young children.
During our chat you’ll hear Meaghan talk about how incredibly gentle and safe craniosacral therapy for infants techniques are. I was amazed to hear that it is less than just one millimetre of movement that craniosacral therapy can do with just 5 grams of pressure. I had also always wondered whether craniosacral therapy for infants involved the baby’s head and it was great to hear from Meaghan that it covers their entire body a little bit like myofascial release but softer and slower.
We also talk about some of the areas that craniosacral therapy for infants can help with by its release of muscle and tissue tensions throughout your little one’s body. These tensions can lead babies to cry, often because they are experiencing pain. This is due to them experiencing symptoms including colic, a shallow latch, a preference to turn their head to one side only as well as tongue tie tension problems. Craniosacral therapy for infants works directly with your little one’s nervous system to help get directly to the root cause of problems and to give your baby fast relief of their troublesome symptoms.
Meaghan regularly helps parents whose babies are crying incessantly with the medical profession offering little more advice than “suck it up, it will cease in a few weeks or months”. Of course, mums and dads need their baby to stop crying yesterday and craniosacral therapy for infants can help get you answers and treat it now, instead of waiting for weeks and months.
