Financial stress is quite a challenge for young families when trying to navigate their new life after their little one comes on the scene.

In this week’s episode of First Time Mum’s Chat I’m exploring the challenge of financial stress which is something many of the mums I speak with face. Who better to speak with on the topic of financial stress than financial coach, Candice Bakx Friesen!

Candice is the mother of 4 active kids and has been self-employed for over 16 years so only had the luxury of maternity leave during her first pregnancy to help relieve the financial stress.

During our chat, you’ll hear Candice talk about ways to help cope with financial stress by:-

  • Creating a budget to minimise the likelihood of financial stress and looking at your different scenarios during the 9 months of your pregnancy to get a headstart. It’s going to be far easier for you than after your little one arrives!
  • Looking at your different options and being as flexible as possible including whether to return to your career, working part-time or working in the evenings when your spouse is home and able to look after the baby during your absence.
  • Why flexibility is so important, since until your baby is born you really don’t know how your life is going to look with your addition to the family. Candice explains how her oldest daughter was born with a disability which meant frequent medical appointments etc. which was of course unexpected.
  • Why you should still have a friend or relative on hand to help with childcare to give you a breather even when you are working from home. This will help improve your productivity and you can plan your schedule to do certain tasks knowing you have that time allocated.

And much more…

Whether this is your first time becoming a parent or the 6th, you’ll want to hear Candice’s pearls of wisdom on all things financial stress.
