Many of the mums I speak with feel scared, alone and overwhelmed when it comes to caring for their newborns.

There’s so much going on and it can quickly become exhausting.

Yes, they’ve got access to medical professionals and midwives but who can they turn to for non-medical help?

This is where the role of a postpartum doula begins, providing mums with that crucial essential emotional, physical and mental support that they need.

I wanted to find out more about the whole world of doulas and I was thrilled to speak with Erin Carroll-Manning. Erin’s business Gentle Giraffes helps moms recover from childbirth, manage household chores as well as anything else helpful in their postpartum recovery.

About Erin Carroll-Manning

Erin Carroll-Manning

Erin Carroll-Manning, The Intuitive Baby Whisperer and CEO of Gentle Giraffes Newborn Care & Family Services

Erin Carroll-Manning is the founder of Gentle Giraffes and a trained Master Newborn Care Specialist (NCS), trained Postpartum Doula (PPD), Car Seat Tech, and lactation support specialist. In addition to these Erin trained in Respectful Care for Newborns, Infants and Toddlers.

Erin has worked in the child care sector for more than 25 years. She began as a babysitter, moved on to being a mother’s helper, and finally to a professional nanny before deciding to specialize in newborns and support of the whole family during the crucial yet joyous time that characterizes the post-birth season.

As a Master Newborn Care Specialist, Erin has completed the three-year Mentorship Program with Newborn Care Solutions, a highly selective and intense training program which specializes in newborn care education.

She has substantial and unique expertise in all aspects of newborn care, parental education, and support, to help nurture newborns toward optimal growth and development while providing guidance and education for parents, and on occasion, the extended family as well. This is done through consultations in addition to daytime hours, overnights, and travel with babies and their families.

As a Postpartum Doula, Erin is trained to help moms recover from childbirth, manage household chores, laundry, and meal-prep, and to assist moms and their babies in getting to their doctor’s appointments, as well as anything else helpful in their postpartum recovery.

In addition, as an NCS and PPD, (or hybrid as they’re called in the industry, meaning one who is dual-trained in both areas), Erin answers questions concerning newborn care, help parents bathe their baby, and provide an environment for parents to bond with their newborn while coaching them towards the establishment of a solid breastfeeding supply and a routine that supports optimal development during both day and nighttime hours.

Her dual training, along with 25 years of infant and child care experience, are foundational to her ability to provide both you and your newborn hands-on support, day or night. It is Erin’s privilege to give you both support and guidance, to teach you about what you and your baby are experiencing, and how to handle each stage of development.
